Our tutors are all paid based on performance. So, the better the student and parent feedback, the more they get paid, and the more students they pick up. Similarly, the worse the student and parent feedback, the less they get paid, and the less students they pick up. Hence, in the very end, ineffective tutors are naturally wiped out of our tutorial network.

Cheryl is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University, where she was the vice president of the school's English honor society. Her other experiences working with young people include volunteering as a tutor for underprivileged middle graders, working at a summer camp, and volunteering as a soccer coach. Her first novel for young readers, Last Midnight, will be published by Disney/Hyperion in Fall 2008 under her pen name, Parker Peevyhouse. She has also published a short story for young readers in Disney Adventures Magazine.

Laura Rose earned her B.A. in English from San Jose State University in 2003 as a Dean's Scholar. She was a recipient of the James O. Wood Shakespeare Award from her English Department in 2002, and again as a graduate student in 2005. Laura completed her Master's in English and Comparative Literature in 2006, with German as a second language. She has lectured as a graduate assistant in several SJSU English classes, and taught ESL with a non-profit in San Jose during the summer of 2005. Recently, Laura delivered a paper on the work of William Faulkner and Jean Toomer at the UCLA Southland Conference, a seventeen year-old tradition of the UCLA English Society. Laura Rose has a deep interest in creativity and language arts.

Rita is an honors graduate from Santa Clara University. There she double majored in Italian Studies and English, with a specialization in American Poetry. She will soon be pursuing her M.A. and PhD. in Italian Studies. She has been tutoring for numerous years in Italian and English for both youths and adults. She is currently teaching an adult Italian class in Menlo Park.

Chemistry
Sherry is a retired chemist. After working several years in basic research, she worked 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a research chemist. For the last nine years, while raising her family, she has been employed by the FUHSD as a substitute teacher, primarily in math and science classes. She has tutored students in Honors Chemistry and in preparation for the Chem SAT II exam as well. Her students have gone onto such prestigous colleges as Stanford and Amherst. Sherry enjoys teaching and looks forward to helping her students increase their understandings of chemistry.

Mark Carpenter has been teaching since 2002, when he earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Southern California. He teaches writing, reading, and English grammar to students ranging from preschool to the university level. He recently completed his Master of Arts in English and a certificate in teaching English Composition from San Francisco State University. In his free time, he writes short stories and volunteers at summer camps for children with diabetes.
