Meet the Experts: Integrated Bioimaging with Dr. Auer
February 8 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Thinking about majoring or pursuing a career in the biosciences?
Are you curious of the inner workings of macromolecular complexes, organelles, cells, and tissues?
This is your chance to meet Manfred Auer, PhD. He is the Director of Physical Analysis of the Joint BioEnergy Institute, Program Lead for Imaging at the Energy Biosciences Institute, and the Divisional Program Lead for Mesoscale BioImaging Technologies.
The goal of Dr. Auer’s research is to determine the macromolecular and cellular multiprotein organization in a variety of different biological samples, ranging from our senses of hearing and balance over breast development and breast cancer, to plant cell walls and microbial communities. In order to accomplish these goals, his lab continues to adapt and further develop new imaging technologies, including focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy and chemical imaging, including Raman microspectroscopy, and correlative light and electron microscopy. They have a track record in three-dimensional electron microscopy, including cryo-electron tomography as well as sophisticated 3D visualization, segmentation and quantitative analysis.
