Grammar and Essay Composition for grades 6-8 is intended to help students become more grammatical, effective writers. GEC 1 covers grammar fundamentals—including an in-depth look at the eight parts of speech—and builds toward essential strategies for strong sentences, paragraphs, and essays. Students will improve their English writing skills as they compose a personal narrative essay, descriptive essay, expository essay, and argumentative essay, in addition to poetry, short fiction, and responses to texts. Finally, students will practice public speaking by presenting their argument essays. Upon completion of the course, students will have the knowledge and skills for a more detailed analysis of grammar and writing in Grammar and Essay Composition 2.

Prerequisites: An intermediate level or higher of English language understanding is required.
