Does the word “Chemistry” strike fear into your heart? Have you heard how hard it is? Did you know that it can also be fun? And, incredibly fascinating? Don’t take our word for it, take this class! Chemistry is often a rude awakening for high school students because it’s your first transition from a descriptive science class to a numerical science class. Since when did science have equations? Who is this Avogadro guy and why doesn’t his number have an area code? Is this for reals? Don’t be caught off guard. It makes a world of difference when students have learned chemistry before taking chemistry, as odd as that may sound.
- As one of our most customized class offerings, the course content is based on the California State Standards for Chemistry and the San Francisco Bay Area’s local high school curriculum. It is designed to prepare students for core concepts of chemistry.
- Over the 15 sessions (2 hours/session), there will be two in-class quizzes and three take-home exams. Topics that will be covered include atoms, moles, periodic table, compounds, stoichiometry, states of matter, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox reactions, nuclear chemistry, and organic chemistry.
- By the end of the course, the students will be able apply these topics to the real world situations. To further tailor the course, our expert instructors select the learning activities to match the needs and goals of their students in each class.
